Social Skills Classes
Who: Currently, our classes will serve children ages 5-13 who have difficulty understanding how the social world works and who need to improve their social interaction skills.
Why: To help students become more socially competent by learning the verbal and nonverbal communication skills they need to interact with others more effectively, and to improve their academic success by better understanding social information in reading and writing.
How: We'll be drawing upon a variety of sources including: Michelle Garcia Winner's "Think Social" curriculum, Jed Baker's "Social Skills Training", and Brenda Smith Myles' "The Hidden Curriculum" as starting points for instruction and develop lesson plans based on the needs of the children in the group. We will also have a fluency component where children will practice key skills so they can be performed without thinking when challenging social situations arise.
Where: 48 Union Street, Stamford, CT
We have rolling admissions.
