Cheers to Us: Fundraiser Update
It didn't matter what region the wine was from or if the toast was Chin Chin, Kia Oro, À Votre Santé, or Cheers. To the 100 friends of Achieve Fluency Learning Center who enjoyed many wines and sampled delicious cheeses at our fundraiser on May 1, what really mattered was the children we serve. Our guests' appreciation of our programs and services helped us raise $11,500 for Achieve Fluency Summer Program. Whether sampling the flavors and bouquets of wines from New Zealand, South Africa, Europe or the west coast of the United States, everyone celebrated the tremendous intellectual and social gains that children with learning challenges can make given the right tools and methods of teaching. All that celebrating didn't interfere with people vying for the wonderful auction and raffle items. Our twelve volunteers went above and beyond in finding exciting and fun gifts for every age and interest including a special raffle for an iPad 2. Congratulations to Kit Savage of Darien, CT for winning the iPad 2 raffle! In between the conversations, laughter and tastings, our guests enjoyed music provided by The Dave Kardas Band and our auctioneer, Dr. Paul Potenza kept the bidding lively. The afternoon was filled with special moments, but none more meaningful than receiving a proclamation from Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia declaring Sunday, May 1, 2011 as Achieve Fluency Learning Center and Consulting Service Day. It was an honor for us to receive such a special recognition for our work and to have Robin Lawler Pavia, Director of Special Education in Darien, present it to us. A very special thank you to Mary Schaffer and Charles Morgan of Napa and Co, for hosting such a wonderful afternoon. Their generosity allows us to allocate all the proceeds to benefit our summer program scholarships. We're delighted that so many of you came and joined us for our special event. It was such fun and so successful that we're already looking forward to next year's fundraiser!
